The Old Trade Route: 4‑Day Chiang Mai, Fang Valley, Hilltribes & Golden Triangle Journey

Day 1 – Chiang Mai → Fang Valley → Palong Village → Mae Kok River Village Resort

Depart Chiang Mai north to Fang Valley and Wat Tum Tubtao.
Cycle 2–3 hours through rural landscapes to Palong village.
Re‑board vehicle and check into Mae Kok River Village Resort.
Dinner and campfire (weather permitting).

Overnight : Mae Kok River Village Resort or similar

Meal : L/D

Day 2 – Jungle Trek & Hilltribe Visits

Depart resort to drop‑off point.
Full‑day walk through scenic jungle, hills, and hilltribe villages.
Picnic lunch.
Late‑afternoon pick‑up and return to resort.
Dinner and campfire.

Overnight : Mae Kok River Village Resort or similar

Meal : B/L/D

Day 3 – Hilltribe Villages → River Barge → Lahu Village

Optional visit to Giant Buddha images at Wat Tha Ton.
Visit Shan, Akha, Yao, and Karen villages.
Board river barge for lazy rafting trip.
Canoes available.
Picnic lunch on riverbank.
Optional 1.5‑hour walk to Lahu village.
Overnight in jungle river camp (bamboo bungalows).
BBQ dinner & campfire.

Meal : B/L/D

Day 4 – River Barge → Elephant Safari → Golden Triangle → Chiang Rai → Chiang Mai

Continue river barge trip.
Optional canoeing.
1‑hour elephant safari from Ban Ruam Mit.
Lunch.
Visit Mae Sai (Thai‑Burma border).
Drive through Golden Triangle to Chiang Rai.
Return to Chiang Mai with tea/coffee stop.
