However, if you truly want to explore Vietnam, start with the nature of the north —
and even 11 days is barely enough.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Hanoi
Arrival at Noi Bai Airport. Transfer to hotel. Optional cyclo ride through Old Quarter.
Overnight : Hotel
Day 2 – Hanoi → Mai Chau → Hang Kia
Drive to Mai Chau region. Meet Muong, Hmong, White Thai groups.
Trek 4 hours from Xa Linh to Hang Kia.
Overnight : Hang Kia village
Meal : B/L/D
Day 3 – Hang Kia → Cun Pheo
Trek steep mountain terrain to Cun Pheo. Challenging but rewarding views.
Overnight : Cun Pheo village
Meal : B/L/D
Day 4 – Cun Pheo → Sam Khoe
Trek through Thai ethnic minority villages. Friendly encounters and scenic countryside.
Overnight : Sam Khoe village
Meal : B/L/D
Day 5 – Sam Khoe → Cuc Phuong
Walk out of Mai Chau Valley. Drive to Cuc Phuong National Park.
Visit museum and zoo garden.
Overnight : Cuc Phuong

Day 6 – Cuc Phuong
Six‑hour trek through primeval forest. Meet Muong hilltribe people. Picnic lunch.
Overnight : Muong village
Meal : B/L/D
Day 7 – Cuc Phuong → Ninh Binh
Drive to Tam Coc. Boat trip through rice fields and limestone caves.
Overnight : Hotel
Meal : B/L
Day 8 – Ninh Binh → Ha Long Bay
Drive through Red River Delta. Visit farmers and Keo Pagoda.
Overnight : Hotel
Meal : B
Day 9 – Ha Long Bay → Hanoi
Cruise Halong Bay. Swim in secluded cove. Seafood lunch.
Return to Hanoi for water puppet show.
Overnight : Hotel

Day 10 – Hanoi
Full sightseeing: Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, Fine Arts Museum,
Temple of Literature, History Museum, Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, Ethnology Museum.

Day 11 – Hanoi
Free time. Transfer to Noi Bai Airport for departure.

Vietnam’s infrastructure may differ from expectations; mountain accommodation is basic.
No western toilets, no running water, no electricity in tribal huts.
No air‑conditioning transport in and around Sapa.
Good trekking weather from September to June.
Bring rain jacket, inner sleeping sheet, boots, warm clothes (winter), torch, toilet paper.
